A cycle rickshaw was running through the sparsely trafficked streets of Saidpur. Compared to cycle rickshaw running in Dhaka, the cycle rickshaws around here were less decorated. There were no cars or even cycle rickshaws around, and there are not many pedestrians. Still, the rickshaw wallah was noisy, ringing bells and pedaling. I could only assume that he is ringing more to assert himself than for safety reasons.
I guess rickshaw wallahs want the people around themselves to notice the presence. Maybe it's a kind of desire for approval. To get someone's approval, you can't just sit still on your own, so it seems like you're running around ringing a bell.
