Suddenly, I noticed a white cat standing on a street corner in Kolkata. It was watching me intently. Maybe it's a stray cat because it's so skinny. As I walk around here, many locals show interest in me. There are a lot of foreigners visiting Kolkata, but there are few carefree tourists walking down nondescript streets. This cat seemed to share this feeling. It seemed to think me, a foreigner whom it didn't see very often, was a rare sight for it to see. However, I was not sure if the cat recognize me as a foreigner or not.
When I walk around India, I often see dogs taking a nap or taking a walk. But it's rare to see a cat. In the Muslim world, cats are popular and dogs are not so popular. By contrast, in the Hindu-majority world, you see dogs a lot, but I don't think you see many cats. Maybe cats are not so popular in the Hindu world.
