The Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall was huge, dedicated to Chiang Kai-shek, who wanted to one day counterattack the Chinese mainland. It seems to be the embodiment of the desire of Chiang Kai-shek, who died in Taiwan while hoping to take over the vast Chinese continent. This desire is evident in the street names of Taipei. After Japan withdrew from Taiwan, the Kuomintang (KMT) under Chiang Kai-shek changed the names of some of the streets in Taipei to places in mainland China.
The entrance to the massive structure was also huge. The interior was dimly lit and the sun was shining through the entrance. I stood by the entrance and watched the flow of people coming and going. All the people who tried to enter were silhouetted as they entered. Even the family in the photo became silhouetted as they entered, their faces disappearing.
