I came to Taipei. This was my third visit to Taipei. As soon as I checked into the hotel, I left my luggage behind and headed out for the city. I ate a hearty meal at a nearby restaurant, and then headed to a night market to fill up. According to the map, Linjiang Night Market was the closest to the hotel.
The sun had set long ago, but the market was bustling with people. The word "market" may conjure up images of a market where fresh food is sold, but Taiwanese night markets are more like a Japanese fair. There are several stalls on the street, and people walk in front of them. Following the crowd, I walked through the crowds, looking at what was for sale at the stalls.
After walking for a while, I came to a stall selling baby sponge cakes. In Japan, baby sponge cakes are usually spherical like a bell, but in Taipei, the shapes vary. Well, I guess any shape can be made by changing the shape of the mold. On the other hand, I wonder why the shapes are always the same in Japan. At a stall that seemed to be run by a family, a young man was baking baby sponge cakes one after another, manipulating the molds.
