As I walked through the town, the evening light began to fall quietly. It was the perfect time to head to the night market. And so I made my way to the Ningxia Night Market.
The street itself, where the night market was held, was dimly lit with few streetlights. Even so, there were rows and rows of stalls with twinkling lights. The scene was like a flower blooming in the darkness. The colors of the lights and the heat gently offset the silence of the night.
Among the many stalls, I spotted one selling takoyaki. Of course, this is Japanese food. It is not Chinese food. Still, sushi and Japanese-style yakitori are also sold at this night market. So it was not surprising to find takoyaki on the shelves. I don't know if it is a common food here or not, but at least, unbeknownst to me, takoyaki has crossed the sea and taken root in a distant foreign land.
I stared at the takoyaki from the stall.
I stared at the takoyaki at the stall and muttered to myself, “ You've come a long way,” as I looked at the takoyaki.
