A young man was inside a store selling betel nut. It is written in Chinese characters as “檳榔." This kind of store is everywhere in Tainan. It seems to be an indispensable item for the locals. When you chew betel nut, your spit turns red and you have to spit it out, but when you walk around town, you do not often see red stains on the street where you think someone spit it out. In places where binlou is common, the red spit that everyone spits out is often a problem, but here there seems to be no such problem. Perhaps, though, it is forbidden to spit in the street.
The young man in the store was just making binglow. But he didn't look like he was concentrating on making it. He was staring at the screen of his phone, which he had set aside, and his hands often stopped making. He seemed distracted.
