The wide street in front of Shinagawa Station, which would normally be busy, was deserted on the weekend. A light rain was falling and the road surface was wet. It seemed as if the pouring rain had washed away all the noise of the town.
I stopped on a pedestrian bridge and watched the quiet traffic. In places, I could see pedestrians walking. Most of them were walking with umbrellas of the same dusky color as the dull image of the city. While I was leisurely watching, a man with a yellow umbrella appeared. Unlike the umbrellas of the others, the man's umbrella was bright and seemed to shine through the dull streets.
