A large gate with round-roofed towers loomed at the entrance to the old town, which is registered as a World Heritage site. A hooded man was walking in front of the gate. Khiva is a city that prospered as a transit city on the Silk Road, but by the time I visited, its heyday had long passed. It has been a long time since the center of logistics became shipping. Caravans no longer visit here.
On the other side of the gate, the unfinished Kalta Minor can be seen. Although it would have been one of the largest minarets in the world had it been completed, construction has been halted and it remains a tourist attraction.
