I stopped on the Yanagibashi Bridge over the Kanda River and looked at the surface of the water. Both banks of the river are well protected and the river is straight. Although this may be unavoidable to prevent flooding, the straightened river does not feel natural. There are no places where the current is sluggish, which makes it difficult for fish to live.
A number of houseboats are moored on the concrete-covered wharf. This appears to be a wharf for houseboats. However, there are no passengers yet. It would be after dark when the houseboats would be busy. The calm and serenity of the Kanda River was broken by a tugboat. In contrast to the houseboats drifting quietly on the surface of the water, the tugboat was rippling along, as if in a hurry to get somewhere.
