From Luang Prabang, I took a ferry, which only local people ride, to the other side of the Mekong River. There is a village called Ban Xieng Maen, which has a completely different atmosphere from that of Luang Prabang, which is becoming more and more touristy. Walking along the banks of the Mekong River, I saw many long, narrow wooden boats moored along the river. These boats are used by local fishermen, not tourists, as is often the case on the Luang Prabang side of the river. The Mekong River is a fishing ground for local fishermen, and when I went to the morning market in Luang Prabang, I found many river fish caught in the river for sale.
