Although I had not originally planned to visit the Chiba City Museum of Art, after seeing Hisashi Eguchi's illustrations at the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art, I decided to visit the Chiba City Museum of Art as well. Since I had come all the way to Chiba City, I decided to extend my visit to the Chiba City Museum of Art. According to the map, the Chiba City Museum of Art is located near the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art. It takes about 30 minutes to walk there.
The Chiba City Museum of Art is located in the central area of the city, which is a change from the reclaimed bay area where the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art was located. The Chiba City Museum of Art was built in a former bank building, completely covering the neo-Renaissance-style former Chiba branch of Kawasaki Bank, which was built in 1927.
Entering the building, one finds a classical space that contrasts sharply with the modern exterior. In the days when the building was a bank, the counter was probably located in a neo-Renaissance hall lined with eight columns. Although restored, it was quite luxurious and the atmosphere was different from that of a modern bank. Banks in the past may have been dignified in this way. I feel that today's banks have lost more than just reliability.
