There is still a jumbled section of the city near Shibuya Station. Alleys are intermingled, and bars and pachinko parlors are densely packed together. Shibuya is undergoing redevelopment, but this area seems to be the only one that has been left out of the big flow of redevelopment. However, it is places like this that give the city its strong individuality. Its fragrance may not be that of a high-class perfume, but rather a fermented food, a slow and deliberate process. Rather, it is a character suited to the smell of fermented food, a smell that is slowly ripening. I can't help but feel that when a city is redeveloped, all the neighborhoods end up looking alike. I think the city needs this kind of matured smell.
The sun was shining in the alley, creating a small sunshade as if weaving in and out of shadows. And people hurried through those sunshades.
