Exiting Tokyo Station and heading toward the Yaesu side, you will soon enter the Nihonbashi area. This area has long been a bustling place, lined with long-established department stores, and the Tsukiji market used to be located here. Walking through the drinking district of Nihonbashi, I found that the streets were cool in the shadows of the buildings on either side of the street. Most of the tenants in the buildings seemed to be drinking establishments.
The world of restaurants is a fierce competition for survival. Even in an area with a long history like Nihonbashi, there may not be many long-established restaurants that have been around for a long time. It is inevitable, in a sense, that new restaurants are born and old ones disappear as the times change. In such a scene, one cannot help but feel a sense of “all things go before and after”.
