Shinkyo bridge is a World Heritage Site located at the entrance to the Nikko Futaarasan Jinja Shrine. According to legend, when Shodo Shonin opened Nikko, the Jinja-Daisho appeared and built two serpents as a bridge. In Cambodia, there are often giant serpents called Naga on bridges, but I wonder if they are similar to this legend.
This sacred bridge has a long history, having already appeared in documents from the Muromachi period (1333-1573). However, the bridge in this photo is not that old. This is because it was rebuilt in 1904 after the original bridge was washed away by a typhoon in 1902. Although it has been rebuilt, the sacred atmosphere of the bridge remains unchanged and is still loved by many people.
