There was a pole hanging in front of a brick house. It was a clothesline. In Bungamati, where even washing machines are rare, a dryer must be as rare as an aardvark. Laundry is hung out to dry on the clothesline in the old-fashioned way, as shown in the photo.
This place is in an alley and doesn't get much sun, but there was laundry hanging on the clothesline. I suspect it would be difficult to dry clothes in a place with such little sunlight, but this may have been the only place available.
There were pants hanging on the clothesline and shirts, too. A saree could also be seen hanging in a nearby window. The saree, made of a long piece of cloth, was hanging slackly outside the window.
