As I walked further, the alley transformed completely into a residential area.
The passage narrowed even more, flanked by tightly packed homes. Overhead, a tangled web of electrical wires crisscrossed the sky—so chaotic that it was impossible to tell if they were carefully managed or simply abandoned. Below them, lines of laundry swayed gently in the humid air, hanging from makeshift poles and balconies.
This was undeniably the heart of everyday Mumbai—a space untouched by shops, tourists, or commercial bustle. Here, life simply unfolded.
I glanced around and noticed a man sitting beneath the drying clothes, his eyes fixed on his smartphone. He wasn’t in a hurry, nor did he seem distracted—just quietly immersed in whatever was on his screen. His presence seemed to capture the unhurried rhythm of life in this part of the city.
I couldn't help but wonder—wouldn’t the laundry dry faster if it were spread out more?
With that idle thought lingering in my mind, I continued deeper into the maze of alleys, letting the city guide my steps.
