I turned off the main street onto a side street and entered a residential area. Houses were lined up in rows, and narrow streets passed between them. As I came to a house, the woman in the photo came out of the house and met my eyes. I asked her if I could take her picture, and she agreed. The woman in the pink shirt was wearing thanaka all over her face. No, not only her face, but also her arms were covered with it. It seemed that all exposed parts of her body were covered with thanaka. Perhaps they also apply it to the parts of the body that are not visible through clothing.
Myanmar people apply thanaka not only as a cosmetic but also as a sunscreen. This woman seems to be very uncomfortable with suntanning, but upon closer inspection, the woman's skin is naturally quite dark in color. She seems to be a Myanmarese of Indian descent. As proof of this, she had a bindi between her eyebrows, which is often worn by Hindus. I thought that even if I did not pay attention to tanning, I would not get sunburned any more.
