There was also a school in the center of Ubud. The school was closed for the day, and the gate was firmly closed. Looking inside through the fence, I saw a statue of Ganesha behind the school gate, which was made of stone and as magnificent as the temple itself.
Ganesha is a Hindu god of commerce and learning. He is like a combination of Guan Yu and Sugawara Michizane, two well-known gods in Japan. Since he is also a god of learning, he is probably enshrined on the grounds of a school. Perhaps in Bali, Ganesha is like Japan's Sontoku Ninomiya.
A girl wearing sandals walked by while I was standing in front of the gate. When I pointed my camera at her, she gave me a cold stare.
