When I arrived at the beach of Beruwala, there was a commotion. There were many men wearing loincloths called "lungi" on the beach. They were fishing with seine nets. Many fishermen were holding nets in their hands, looking as if they were waiting for a tug-of-war to begin.
Without knowing when the signal was given, the fishermen began to pull their nets onto the beach. Occasionally someone would shout, but there was no shouting or work songs. The fishermen were working silently on the beach, with nothing but the sound of the sea.
