The scramble crossing extends in front of Shibuya Station. This place is crowded at all hours of the day. When the light turns green, the intersection is instantly filled with pedestrians.
I stopped at the edge of the intersection and stared at the flow of people. Perhaps I was imagining it, but all the people walking by seemed to have a downcast look on their faces. No one was happily conversing with each other, and they just kept walking in silence.
On the other hand, as I looked up, I saw a large electronic billboard hanging on the wall. On it was an image of a woman with a happy smile on her face. The contrasting scene left a strange impression on my memory.
