Shanghai used to be surrounded by city walls. Where the wall once stood is now a road, People's Road and Zhonghua Road. In other words, this ring road is the old Shanghai. Even today, there are still streets in this area that do not resemble the rapidly developing Shanghai.
There were rows of old low-rise houses in the alleys with tilted telephone poles. Laundry was hanging out to dry in front of the eaves, just like in Shanghai. As I continued down the alley for a while, a man pedaling a tricycle with a cart came from the other side. He was carrying a large load and seemed to have difficulty pedaling. Both the houses and the man delivering the goods by hand were old-fashioned enough.
