A cobblestone path passed between brick buildings. The buildings on either side of the street were four stories high, and many people probably lived there, but few people walked along the street, and no sign of life leaked out of the windows. The alleys of the old town of Bhaktapur were lonely. All I could see in the windows was the laundry hanging out to dry.
Two women were sitting on the side of such a lonely street. They were one of the few locals I encountered in this densely populated residential area. They may have been making small talk there. They may have noticed me, but they were looking at me.
