I left Kyauktan and returned to Yangon. Unlike the quiet Kyauktan, Yangon is a big city. There are many large buildings and many cars on the streets. The cab I took from Kyauktan went through the city. But the driver did not understand English, and I did not speak Burmese. Under such circumstances, it was difficult to explain where my hotel was. So I decided to get off the cab at Sule Pagoda, where I could tell the driver my name and he would understand it. It is not far from here to the hotel.
There were bookstores scattered around the area where I got off the cab. This area seems to be a bookstore district. I entered one of them. Most of the books sold were written in Burmese. Compared to the past, it is rare to see people reading books on the street corner due to the spread of smartphones, but it seems that bookworms still exist in Yangon.
The man in the photo was working in a corner of the bookstore district. Although he did not have a store, he too was doing book-related work. On the table are scissors, a hammer, and other tools of his trade. The man was a book restorer, and he was repairing old books by binding them back together beautifully.
