Anywhere in the world, if you continue to use a knife, it loses its sharpness. The same is true in India. What is a little different from Japan, however, is that sharpening blades itself seems to be a business in India.
In a store I passed by, a man was sharpening the blades of scissors with a large file (whetstone) spinning. The large file stood out prominently in the store and seemed to symbolize that this store specialized in sharpening. I have seen the scene of a rotating file sharpening blades in Pune. So it must not be particularly rare in India. I have never seen such a large file spinning in Japan. But seeing it in front of my eyes, I was a little impressed by its power and efficiency.
