A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine. I think it is an indigenous architecture of Japan. I have never seen them out of this country.

On the precinct corner, I found many small torii. Although this temple belonged to Buddhism, there were also some small Shinto shrines in the precinct. The wooden torii and stone torii were alternate interestingly. And the names of donators were written on the poles.
