Although there were several fishing boats moored at the Tokawa fishing port, which was barricaded off, there was not much sign of life. The occasional person could be seen quietly engaged in some kind of work, and the fishing port was enveloped in silence. Walking along the edge of the fishing port, the only time I felt a sense of activity was when I walked in front of an eating place that served fresh seafood caught here.
It was not very interesting to wander around the fishing port. So I gave up on walking around the fishing port and headed for a nearby Shinto shrine. A shrine called Osugi Jinja stands quietly right next to Tokawa Fishing Port. I set my sights on the shrine.
The Osugi Jinja Shrine was even more deserted than the fishing port, with no sign of people and damaged guardian dogs, making me feel a bit sad. I paid my respects in the modest shrine hall, turned around, and walked down the approach steps to see the ocean beyond the torii gate. The shrine was facing the sea. The shrine was built in such a way as to make us believe that the deity, Sarutahiko Okami, came from somewhere beyond the sea and came ashore from the Tokawa fishing port.
