Shirdi is famous for being the hometown of Shirdi Sai Baba. Although Shirdi Sai Baba himself passed away more than 100 years ago, he is still revered and many pilgrims visit the Shirdi Sai Baba temple in this town. Although not depicted on posters, there are probably people who have been passing on Shirdi Sai Baba's teachings to future generations.
The man in the photo also visited the temple on a pilgrimage, but he seemed to have gone limp under the strong sunlight. Even though there was a huge Shirdi Sai Baba temple nearby, he rested on the roadside with a towel on his head without going inside.
Incidentally, the Sai Baba often featured on Japanese TV is Sathya Sai Baba, who passed away in 2011, and is not the same person as the Shirdi Sai Baba enshrined here. Sathya Sai Baba is the self-proclaimed reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba. In other words, the fame of Shirdi Sai Baba born here in Shirdi is that high.
