A procession for worldly benefits formed by the clear Mitarashi Pond

As I had expected when I saw the throngs of worshippers lined up at the shrine pavilions, there were also many visitors to Mitarashi Pond at the back of Kashima Jingu Shrine, a pond filled with over 400,000 liters of spring water per day. The pond is so clear that the bottom can be seen clearly. In the old days, people used to perform misogi here before visiting the shrine. Even now, as many as 200 people perform "Daikan Misogi" at the beginning of the year, and the water can be brought back home.

It was an unfortunate situation for me, who had been attracted by the fantastic image of Mitarashi Pond when I saw a picture of it and decided to visit. On the other side of the fantastic surface of the pond, a line of people were waiting, hoping to get a bit of luck. I wondered if I should have come earlier in the day, and took a photo of the water surface reflecting the reflection of people seeking worldly gain.
