Like many other major cities, Mumbai is filled with street vendors operating in the busiest areas. While storefronts line the buildings along the road, much of the commerce spills out onto the sidewalks. Tables are set up along the streets, food stalls crowd every available corner, and the energy of street-side business blends seamlessly into the urban chaos.
The man in the floral shirt, captured in the photograph, was one such vendor. He had set up a table right on the roadside, conducting his trade with an easy confidence. When I pointed my camera at him, he responded with a wide grin, his expression full of warmth and charm.
But while his smile was unmistakable, what he was selling remained a mystery. His table was covered with bright red food that resembled tandoori chicken at first glance. Yet something about it felt off—tandoori chicken is traditionally cooked in a tandoor, a clay oven, making its presence at a street stall somewhat unusual. Was it really tandoori chicken, or something else entirely? I couldn’t say for sure.
Whatever it was, it added yet another vibrant layer to the sensory overload of Mumbai’s street life.
