There is a large pedestrian crossing at Daiichi Keihin, which runs in front of JR Tamachi Station. The crosswalk is so wide that one wonders how many people are expected to cross it. On weekday mornings when many people are on their way to work or college, this wide pedestrian crossing might be filled with pedestrians, but it was a weekend day. Even when the traffic light for cars turned red, pedestrians did not overflow from anywhere. There was only a white line extending horizontally across the roadway.
This crosswalk is one of my favorite spots. Not because it feels good to cross the wide pedestrian crossing. It is because I can see this pedestrian crossing clearly from the terrace of the Morinaga Plaza building in front of the station. I don't visit Tamachi often, but when I do, I go to the terrace without going down the stairs from the ticket gate and observe the people crossing the pedestrian crossing from above. I would love to come here once during the morning commute to see the overflow of people walking through the pedestrian crossing, but unfortunately, I have not been able to do so. It was also a weekend day, so there were not many people crossing the pedestrian crossing. The only people crossing was a mother pushing a stroller through the zebra pattern.
