I walked into a large building in the center of Yangon. It is a modern shopping mall called Junction City. Looking at the tenants inside, there are many famous brands that even I am familiar with. Estee Lauder, Coach, Samsung, Sony, and so on. Even the ramen store Ippudo had a store in the restaurant area.
The upper floors are office towers just like modern buildings in Tokyo. In short, this is a place that is on the cutting edge of fashion in Yangon. However, it was not the shopping mall with its brand-name stores that interested me the most. Interestingly, there was also an area in the same building where local people were doing business. Although the area is divided, foreign-owned stores and local stores live together in the same building.
In the area where the locals were doing business, there were no famous brands, but only individual stores. The woman in the photo is one of the workers in the area. She was sewing with an old-fashioned foot-pedal sewing machine. Of course, what she was working on was not a brand-name product. When she noticed me, she stopped working and smiled shyly.
