Several women were walking along the approach to the shrine, which is a gentle slope. A torii gate can be seen ahead. This approach connects the beach and Izumo Shrine. In October of the lunar calendar, gods from all over Japan gather through this approach. For this reason, October of the lunar calendar is usually called "kan-na-zuki (No deity month)," but in Izumo, it is called "kami-ari-zuki (Month with deities)." They leave their usual residence and come to Izumo.
It was the month of kamizaitsuki when I visited Izumo. The gods may be coming and going along this approach right now, though they are invisible to the naked eye.
