It has been a while since I visited the Hamarikyu Gardens. This was originally the daimyo's residence of Matsudaira Tsunashige, the younger brother of the fourth shogun, Ietsuna. After that, it became a villa of the Shogun's family, and so on. After not visiting for a while, the garden seems to have become a tourist attraction for foreign visitors, and there were many foreign tourists in the garden. It is not far from Ginza, so it is probably a good place to visit on a whim.
The highlight of Hamarikyu is the tidal pond. The pond is filled with seawater, which changes its appearance with the ebb and flow of the tide. Even now that the pond is a bit far from the sea, the sight of small islands floating in the large pond is fascinating, regardless of whether or not the pond actually changes its appearance. There are two islets floating in the tidal pond, connected to the shore by a bridge. The islet in the photo is one of them. I stood on the shore and watched the people coming and going on the bridge and the islets. The people who appeared in my field of vision were silhouettes, and I felt as if I were watching a shadow play.
