The Hamarikyu Gardens, originally the garden of the Kofu clan's subordinate residence, is large. As I walked along the shore of the pond, I saw a couple walking along a small path on the other side of the pond. This pond is called Yokobori. It is one of several ponds in the garden, and it is connected to Tokyo Bay.
The pond at Hamarikyu is a tidal pond. There are many gardens in Tokyo that have been in existence since the Edo period, but this is the only one with a seawater pond. I guess Tokyo Bay used to be just outside the garden, but now it is just outside the Sumida River.
