A young man wearing a hat was standing on the side of the road in Shinjuku with his hands in his pockets. A shopping bag lay at his feet. He stretched out his neck and looked into the store across the street.
The young man waited there for his girlfriend to finish her shopping. But no matter how long he waited, she never finished her shopping. I wondered why women took so long to buy things. It's almost as if they enjoy agonizing over things more than the act of buying itself.
Despite the frustration of the young man, the lights of the nearby Christmas tree were twinkling brightly and cheerfully. It was the Christmas season, a time when the world was full of happy people.
