Reading in the open-air library at Sendai Mediatheque must be pleasant

The Sendai Mediatheque in Sendai is said to be a well-known building, although it doesn't ring a bell for me living in Tokyo. I don't know if this is true, but the French newspaper Le Monde once referred to Sendai as "Sendai, famous for the Sendai Mediatheque". An architecture whose name is known even overseas must be something amazing. With this vague idea in my head, I hurried to the Sendai Mediatheque.

I arrived at the Sendai Mediatheque, which is entirely made of glass and has an open design so that the inside can be seen clearly from the outside. The building, a masterpiece of architect Toyo Ito, is said to have a simple structure of six floors (plates) and 13 independent steel-framed shafts called tubes, shaped like swaying sea grass. Indeed, when you step inside, there are no rugged columns to be seen anywhere. Moreover, the tubes are used not only for networking, air-conditioning and other equipment piping and wiring, but also as pipes for vertical traffic lines such as lifts and stairs, making the interior of the building even more uncluttered. The Sendai Mediatheque is famous for its unique structure and excellent design.

Such a famous building houses the Sendai Civic Library, event spaces, galleries and studios. When I arrived at the library floor, I found local people reading near the all-glass wall. Reading in an open space must be comfortable. You might be able to understand something here that you normally wouldn't be able to understand even if you read it.
