There was an alley stretching into a dense residential area in Jakarta that had a roof over it, making it look like a tunnel. Inside the tunnel, there were tables and chairs, and in such places, there were always locals relaxing and spending time. This place was no exception. There were several men sitting on chairs, relaxing.
Most of the time, the places where people come and go are not very interesting, just like the flow of a river, where there are no obstacles and things can go smoothly. In the same way that it is difficult for fish to live in a place where there is no stagnant current, I think that places where people live also need places where the current stagnates. I think that the reason why strolling through a redeveloped town is not very interesting is because the flow of people is too smooth as a result of the carefully designed lines. They pass by without finding an opportunity to stop.
In this sense, this dense area was the best. The alleyways were intricate, and in some places there were chairs. I tried to walk through them smoothly, but it was not possible. The men who were lounging on the chairs were messing with my stroll.
