There were many bicycle cabs waiting for customers at the entrance of the market. The market was pretty crowded, but there didn't seem to be many people taking bicycle cabs on their way home from shopping, and many of the bicycle cab drivers seemed to be bored. In Jakarta, everyone seemed to have a smartphone, but here in Cirebon, there were no bicycle cab drivers, called Becak, who seemed to have a smartphone. There were no drivers who were killing time while looking at their phones, and many of them were literally at a loss for time. Some drivers were just relaxing and waiting for customers to arrive, while others were chatting away. Among them, the driver in this photo was quietly smoking a cigarette while waiting for a customer to arrive.
When I pointed my camera at the man smoking a cigarette, he responded in a friendly manner. He sat down on the seat of his vehicle, raised his hand holding a cigarette, and smiled at the camera. The man was wearing a wide-brimmed hat that was not a Taqiyah, a baseball cap, or a cowboy hat. The hat looked like some kind of traditional costume.
