A young boy was working at a small coffee shop on a street corner in Yangon. He seemed to be helping out in the family business and was busily moving around the store, this way and that. He stopped and smiled happily when I pointed my camera at him.
Myanmar is the land of tea. The coffee shop this boy was helping with was also a coffee shop that served green tea called Lahpet-yei Gyan, not coffee. Unlike neighboring Thailand, when you enter a restaurant in Myanmar, you are served tea, not water, and it is common to drink tea.
It was very hot in Yangon when I visited. Whenever I walked around, I would get thirsty and would take a sip of green tea at a roadside coffee shop. It was so hot and humid in Yangon that I felt I would become dehydrated if I did not drink water frequently.
