When I have a little free time, I often go into a cafe. It is comfortable to sip coffee while reading a book. Coffee and reading go well together. But what I really want to do in a cafe is neither drinking coffee nor reading a book. The most important reason for going into a cafe is to smoke a cigarette.
Lately, it has become difficult to find a place to smoke on the street. Since smoking is banned everywhere, going into a coffee shop is an easy and reliable way to smoke. I noticed that Japan has become a splendid non-smoking country. On this occasion, I had some free time, so I went into a cafe to blow off a cigarette. This cafe, like many other cafe's, has a separate smoking and smoking area. Smoking areas are often located in the back of the store, and this was also the case here. Smokers are relegated to the corner. Although it is unavoidable, it is also true that one feels somewhat isolated in the smoking area set up in the corner.
When I looked at the glass-walled door on the corner between the non-smoking and smoking areas, I saw an elderly man sitting on the other side of the door.
