A sermon was just being preached in the hall of the Shiluodian. However, it was not particularly ostentatious, and the atmosphere was simple, as if it were an extension of daily life. The visitors who had gathered to listen to the sermon were not dressed in special attire, but were mostly dressed casually. They stood and listened to the sermon in the hall, which was not large.
Most of them were holding their hands together and listening with serious faces. Since the talk was given in Chinese, I had no idea what they were saying. Still, I could sense from the expressions and gestures of the worshippers that they were deeply sympathetic and attuned to the content of the sermon.
The only sound in the hall was the voices of the preachers. No one else was speaking, and silence reigned. In this silence, the weight of the words being spoken seemed to stand out even more. The air in this place was filled with a sense of holiness and piety, and had the power to make one feel something beyond words.
