While walking, I came across a temple called Dongyue. This temple was apparently a Taoist temple built in 1673. Judging from its name, the temple is dedicated to the god Dong Yue Da Di. He is the god of the afterlife.
Like many temples in the center of town, this one stood facing the street, tucked away among the other stores. Although the exterior of the temple was different from the usual stores, so you could tell it was a temple, it was hard to tell from the outside which god it was dedicated to. However, to the locals, it is probably so commonplace that there is no need to explain it to them.
As I stood in front of the temple entrance, I noticed the altar inside. Two worshippers were quietly paying their respects. Their movements seemed to be a natural part of their daily routine. A round stone was placed by the entrance. Where a lion would normally be placed, there was just a round object. It was strangely impressive.
