The road near Machiya station was closed to vehicles. Instead of vehicles, the streets were filled with many people wearing happi coats. Today is a festival. On this day, the main attraction on the roadway was not cars, but portable shrines. I could see many portable shrines parading along the street stretching out in front of me, and the lively shouts of the people echoed in the air. I, who had no connection to this town, watched from the side of the road as the mikoshi passed by.
As I did so, a father with a little girl appeared. In contrast to the joyful atmosphere of the festival, the girl was frowning. Perhaps the girl was too scared of the crowd to enjoy the festival.
