I was walking around some distance from the train station in Chiayi. This area is lined with old houses. They were probably built before World War II, during the Japanese occupation period. If you ask me what exactly makes them Japanese, I can't give you a clear answer, but there is a certain old Japanese atmosphere in the air.
There was a narrow alley running between the houses. I was strangely curious about the alley and peeked in the back. There, too, the same old houses stood quietly. It seemed that not only the buildings facing the street, but also the back of the house were lined with these old-fashioned houses.
There was a sense that the scene was a trace of a time that is now a little lost. Whether this was nostalgic or just strange, I couldn't be sure.
