Chiayi is a city in the central part of the Chianan Plain in mid-western Taiwan, and is one of the eight largest cities in Taiwan. The Tropic of Cancer is located just south of the city, with Taiwan's highest mountain, Yushan, and the famous Alishan timber-producing region to the east.
