The exhibition room we entered was spacious and quiet. In the center of the room was a large glass case. Inside was the museum's centerpiece, a treasure. It was a sculpture made of jade called “Suiyu Hakusai. I had traveled all the way here just to see it.
When I hear the word “jewelry sculpture,” I tend to think of something gorgeous and ornate. However, this jade Chinese cabbage lightly betrays this image. The motif of the sculpture is a Chinese cabbage. It is not just any Chinese cabbage. The color of the jade matches exquisitely with the green of the leaves. Even a grasshopper and a grasshopperfly are carved on the tips of the leaves. Every detail is astonishingly elaborate. While gaping at the realism of the work, I couldn't help but think. Why did the artist decide to carve a Chinese cabbage when he saw this rough jade stone?
While I was staring at it, other visitors came to the glass case. They were pointing at the Chinese cabbage as well. I did not know what their fingers were pointing to on the sculpture. It just seemed that in the quiet time, their thoughts were intermingling with each other in front of the same sculpture.
