Many things have changed with the advent of smartphones, and travel is probably one of them. As a backpacker, I used to just buy a plane ticket and fly to a destination before smartphones, but I doubt many people travel that way anymore. There are a number of hotel booking sites, and if you want, you can even find a place to stay on Airbnb. You can secure a place to stay in advance, check your current location on your smartphone, and even secure transportation with Uber and other services. Once you see how convenient it is, you may find that you can't travel without your smartphone.
Amidst all this, smartphones are also becoming popular in India. Looking at the penetration rate, I was surprised to see that it is low for a country known as an IT superpower, but I think the penetration rate is high in a big city like Mumbai. Almost everyone walking around here seems to have a smartphone. Many of the people working in the market we visited that day also had smartphones, and the boys in the photo were sitting in a row in a corner of the market playing smartphone games.
