I came to Jion-ji Temple in Iwatsuki, Saitama prefecture. It's an ancient temple that is said to have been built as far back as the 9th century. But few people seem to visit on an ordinary day, and the temple grounds were desertede. Only the autumn sunshine flooded the precincts of the temple.
When I was wandering around the grounds, there was a section where many old stone monuments were standing in one corner. If you look closely, they are not just stone monuments, they are all old gravestones. Maybe they are so old that they have become irrelevant with the passage of time.
Surrounded by gravestones, there are also a few Jizo's standing here and there. The Jizo standing still among the gravestones seems to be consoling neglected spirits.
