Stepping into the vicinity of the station, the area was bustling with activity. Stands selling newspapers and magazines lined the street, and there were several stalls selling snacks for the hungry. One of the stands sold fresh juice. When I pointed my camera at a young man standing by one of the stands, he looked a little quizzical, but soon smiled back.
When I turned my attention to the juice stand, I saw a piece of paper with a QR code on it. It seems that QR code payment is quite popular in India. However, it is difficult for foreign travelers to use. Apparently, a phone number or bank account in India is required to prevent fraudulent use.
It seemed that the era of smooth cashless payment anywhere in the world was just around the corner, but the reality seems to be a little further away.
