The aisles were silent again as the truck that had come to deliver the goods drove away. The sun was strong, reminding me of the languid air in the aisles. The aisle was empty and deserted. I was walking alone, trying to leave this aisle, when I felt eyes on me. I traced the source of the gaze and saw a dog. It was staring at me from the shadows. Fortunately, the dog didn't seem to be in a hostile mood. It was probably just curious to see an unfamiliar person. I was a little relieved.
It is not an exaggeration to say that I am most careful with dogs during my trip. I rather like dogs, but I try not to get too close to them. I am more afraid of rabies than of dogs. In Japan, rabies seems to have been eradicated, but in other countries, it is still rampant. The scariest thing about it is that it has a 100% fatality rate. This dog, despite its cute face, may have been infected with the rabies virus. With that in mind, I couldn't approach it lightly, no matter how much it stared at me, and there was no way I was going to pat it on the head.
